Ó Fiaich Library and Archive appoints new Director

The Cardinal Ó Fiaich Library and Archive have announced the appointment of Roddy Hegarty to the newly created position of director. Roddy has been the Education and interpretative Officer CÓFLA since 2006 and was previously Development Officer with the Federation for Ulster Local Studies. Speaking after his appointment he said. ‘This is a very exciting time to be taking up this role. The Library and Archive in recent years has undertaken a strong programme of development. A very successful education and outreach project, assisted by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has generated great interest in the collections here and has attracted large numbers of new users who previously had never visited the Library.

There are big plans for the time ahead and we look forward to building on that success in the years to come. Two major projects lie ahead. The completion of a major publication on the treasures of the Ó Fiaich Library and Archive will be published later this year and alongside this we hope to see the opening of a fully dedicated Gaelic games archive for Ulster at CÓFLA by 2011.’

The new director announced that the next few months will see an extensive consultation with visitors to the library and archive and the wider public to see how services might be enhanced and improved.
